This cookie policy explains how cookies are used on the glasswingpsychology.com website. If you have any questions please do get in touch by emailing: nic@drnicrance.com.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files (normally consisting of numbers and letters) which online services such as websites, email providers, online banking sites, social media sites, e-commerce sites, and search engines provide when you visit them. Software (e.g., a web browser) on your device can store these cookies and send them back to the website if you visit it again. Cookies are commonplace nowadays and help in the provision of many online services. They are therefore not prohibited. They are however governed by The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) which means that website users must be told about the cookies being used the websites they visit and given a choice about whether or not they consent to them.

Why are cookies used?
Cookies are used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, to ‘remember’ information such as the items in your shopping basket and whether or not you are logged in, and they can provide the site owner with analytical information such as how many people have visited the site and which pages people tend to look at the most.
What cookies does this website use?
-
Essential Cookies – in order to operate in a safe and reliable manner, this website uses some ‘essential’ (sometimes also referred to as ‘strictly necessary’) cookies. These are allowed by law and do not require consent from website visitors.
-
Google Analytics technical cookies – if you give your consent this site can use Google Analytics technical cookies. If you do not give your consent then no analytics will be gathered from your visit. Google Analytics technical cookies provide anonymous visitor counts and statistics relating to page visits - this information helps me to see how many people are using the website and how popular the different pages are. I do not share this information with third parties and only use it to get a better understanding of how visitors are using the site so that I can improve it where possible.
For more information about how Google Analytics safeguards your data, please refer to Google’s data privacy and security help pages which can be found using the link below (if you don’t like following links then simply search in your browser for ‘Google Analytics Help – Safeguarding your data’): https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245
If you do not want Google Analytics to collect data on this site then simply click the ‘Decline All’ button on the cookie banner and the analytics cookies will not be used. And if you would like to opt out of Google Analytics across all of the websites you visit you can install the ‘Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on) which can be found using the link below (again, if you don’t like following links then please feel free to search for ‘Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on’): https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

How long do cookies last?
There are two types of cookies: ‘session cookies’ and ‘persistent cookies’. Session cookies expire at the end of your browser session (this is normally the point at which you exit your browser). In contrast, ‘persistent cookies’ are stored on your browser in-between visits to a given website so that the site can remember your preferences or actions. Although it is the website operator who decides when the cookie will expire, you can manually delete persistent cookies at any time or set your browser to delete cookies at a set interval.

What are ‘first-party’ and ‘third-party’ cookies?
First-party cookies are cookies set by the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, in contrast, are set by a website other than the one you are visiting. This might occur if the website you are visiting incorporates elements of another website such as images, advertising or social media plug-ins. When your browser or other software retrieves these elements, the site(s) they come from might set their own cookies. I do not have any of these.

How can you manage cookies?
If you would like to know more about how to access cookie settings in various browsers, feel free to use the links below. Or, if you prefer not to follow links, you can do a search for ‘manage cookie settings’ in whichever browser(s) you use.
